WHAT NOW? AIRWAVES ARE THE PEOPLE'S

Dear Folks, let us stop waxing sentimental about the closure of this Radio-TV and Film channel. And the political officials should not jump into the same wagon just like that.

This company has earned billions of pesos selling entertainment, using women with oversexed dresses on screen, promoting decadent homosexual talents and giving us non-thinking dialogues in their dramas. All these done in the name of freedom of expression? And corrupting the young?

No, Folks, let us start thinking of our airwaves as our own and our having control with regard to its directions. Let this Channel open again under a new dispensation -- let it be a public company with 60% of its stocks owned by the public and and equal number of public folks sitting in the board of directors. Public participation should come from the academe, non-government organizations, and interested media individuals.

Policies of the Channel must include a venue for accepting criticisms of their programs, without getting back at the critics.

Yearly it should open up its statement of assets and liabilities as well as income to the public and how much the public participants, the shareholders are getting per share.

A public media advocate group must be created and based on the Franchise Legislation that will oversee the moral contents of the programs.

In other words, any legislative franchise that will be created must be strict about its implementation.

True democracy is upholding the voice of the people, on the airwaves, especially, our values and traditions that elevate the humanism of everyone, not the unbridled commercial interests of any individual or corporate entity.
