ON CONFRONTING HISTORY

Moves are rife to make the people forget history. These are in forms of raising the spectres of martial law rulers, projecting past family of the dictator as politically clean and still worthy of being re-installed to power, and dangling millions of pesos that we could have should we decide to just forget the past and move on

Actually, Folks, one way to forget history totally is to migrate to other countries which is what two thousand Filipino people per day do, according to statistics. They try to immerse themselves in work, earn as much as possible, yet when they return for a vacation, the same sad feelings, anxieties, or maybe even problems persist.

Another way is to choose a career or another that would not remind us of the past. Others choose a new partner, Hahaha!

Let us go beyond the personal. As a people we should overcome our vulnerabiities and confront the past so we can shape the present and the future to our liking. (to be continued)
