PARTIDO KALIKASAN: APRIL 22 is EARTH DAY

TODAY is EARTH DAY!

This commemoration started in the United States of America (USA) in the 1970s as a national teach-in on environmental issues to spark public awareness and actions.

The original Earth Day is March 20 equinox when the night and day are of equal lengths in all places in the world symbolizing equity and unity.

While it has promoted environmentalism world wide, we must remember that we should EVOLVE our OWN KALIKASAN movement from within our cultural experience, and history.

This way we will benefit from the wisdom and inspiration of our collective experience as a people and as a nation.

Macliing Dulag, a Kalinga tribal leader was killed on April 24 1980 fighting off the development of the Chico Dam project.

He said:

"You ask us if we own the land. And mock us. 'Where is your title?' When we query the meaning of your words you answer with taunting arrogance. 'Where are the documents to prove that you own the land?' Title. Documents. Proofs of ownership. Such arrogance to speak of owning the land, when you shall be owned by it. How can you own that which will outlive you?"

On Friday, April 24, let us reflect together as a KALIKASAN Movement on that wisdom and his sacrifice and the sacrifices of many others, known and un known to fight for our communities and our environment.
