Dear Folks,
Kindly analyze this: out of 12 slots for visual exhibition at the Cultural center of the Philippines in 2017 only two are women. I submitted the works of our organization Kalipunan ng Malalayang Pilipina which spans 30 years of producing educational materials with a feminist perspective, starting in 1988. Come to think of it, is there a discriminatory attitude of the CCP Visual Arts towards us when Kamalapina is a pioneer and an active presence in the visual arts? In fact, our program, Halina Kabaro, a TV program over Channel 4 won the Catholic Mass Media Awards in 1987. Then in 2002, we also produced a 25-minute film on abortion portraying the oppressive condition of an urban poor woman who got impregnated yearly (three girls) by her husband dazed by the idea of having a male child. In 1996, we put up the Papetshow ni Lolay and produced 12 shows for six years at the Museo Pambata. In 1996 also, we produced the Feminismo Primer pamphlet, colored cover and black and white illustrated contents which educates the reader on the fundamentals of equality in the home, the community and the larger society.
Where is justice, Ms. Estrada?
